Statement

Date: June 13, 2012

Planned Parenthood Action Fund has endorsed George Badey for Congress in Pennsylvania's 7th Congressional District. The efforts of the fund, in partnership with more than four million activists, supporters and donors, include a sharp focus on ensuring access to comprehensive, affordable reproductive health care access for all.

George Badey stated, "I am proud to announce that Planned Parenthood Action Fund has endorsed my candidacy for Congress. After visiting a clinic here in our district and understanding firsthand the vital services they provide, my resolve to win in November is even stronger. We cannot let ultra conservative lawmakers deceptively polarize us as a nation."

"Planned Parenthood provides routine gynecological checkups, cancer screening, health education, family planning, and preventative health care procedures for over five million people across the country each year. My opponent voted to strip funding from Planned Parenthood. This measure would effectively eliminate access to these crucial, often life-saving services for millions of women, who would not otherwise have a mammogram or cancer screening."

"My opponent, Pat Meehan, falsely claims this was a "moral" choice. Over 95% of what Planned Parenthood does has nothing to do with any such "moral" choice. Voting to strip all funding from an organization whose sole purpose is preserving the health of women for the last 90 years is immoral. And when I get to Congress I won't stand for it. There can be no exceptions when it comes to protecting the health of our mothers, wives, sisters, and daughters."
